Bring on the Bling!
Hi all! This card was made for Flourishes Fit For Royalty Contest, but, I only found out about it last night and I couldn't get a good enough picture of it before the deadline : ( . I entered it anyway and sent an explanation of why it was late. Maybe it will be considered, if not, that's ok. I had so much work into it I wanted to send it in anyway. The contest was to make a card fit for royalty. The first thing royalty that came to my mind was Faberge eggs! They are so beautiful and intricate and have lots of BLING! So I chose the Lily of the Valley egg and tried my hand at making a card to mimic the look of it.
*It was very hard to get a decent photo of it because of the metallic cardstock that is the base layer of the lilies, the scalloped border and Fleur DE Li's. The lily of the valley flowers on the Faberge' egg are pearls and so I used my four petal punch and cupped it, added a pearl to the center and attached these to a gold gilded quilling strip. On the back side of the flower and strip I added a gold bead to add the gilded jewelry opulence the eggs have.
*
The purple metallic cardstock was scored on my ScorPal to look like tufting and I added a rhinestone to the intersections. The gold metallic scallop circle underneath as well as the border has aurora borealis crystals to further bling it up! The gold metallic fleur de lis have pearl accents as well. Shear ribbon finishes it off. Ok, I know I say this every time but it really does look A LOT prettier, shiny and glitzy in real life. Click on the picture to enlarge it.
*I added this picture also, I am not happy with it, but it shows the metallic card stock better and the color is more true.
It was fun and hectic trying to get it done, and I don't know if I will do anything like it again, but it sure has BLING!

Quilled Monogram
Hi all! Here is another Custom Quilling DT project from the July Newsletter. The quilling strips were pretty lavenders and greens and I had been wanting to try my hand at quilling a monogram and they seemed to be just right for it. I used a Dover clip art book with beautiful ornate alphabets in it and choose one that could be easily done in quilling. The quilling is accented with iridescent seed beeds, click on picture for a close up view. I layered the quilled panel onto a crystal accented pierced Nestability label 2 and then onto a sparkly designer paper. Thanks again for all your sweet comments!! One more project from the July Newsletter tomorrow! Until then,

Pink Paisley Quilled Card
Hi all! Today's card is one from the Custom Quilling August Newsletter and there will be no card details today as it is the first one to be offered as a pattern at Custom Quilling!!! The designer paper, rub-ons and quilling strips used on the card come in the August Custom Quilling Kit. Click on the link to "patterns" on the Custom Quilling site and you will see not only the pattern for the card above but another project pattern from Sue, my sister DT member, and an awesome quiller! Her pattern has the prettiest quilled flowers decorating the paper mache' frame that also comes in the kit.
*
You get a lot of great card stock, designer paper, the frame, lots of quilling strips and fun rub-ons in the kit to do do many quilling, card and other paper projects! I have had lots of fun creating cards and projects with these kits. In fact I have a hard time paring down the project ideas to only three for the newsletter each month.
*
Off to clean up my crafting table so I can finish up some more projects! See y'all tomorrow!

Butterfly Rose Card
Hi all, I went to the GI Dr. and he told me that I have to be on the acid reducer meds for two weeks before the insurance will even consider doing the other test. I am hoping that it will work but I have been on them before, but, maybe this time they will! I had a good day yesterday with the pain not as bad so I was happy to be able to create again! Notice I said nothing about cleaning the house that hasn't been done for a few weeks, priorities, right! lol!
*I had several cards in various stages of completion and finished up this one which is appropriate for my current health trial! The roses are a creamy yellow with the tips of the petals inked in a raspberry and a touch of orange. They also have dew drops on them made with Crystal Effects. All of the roses have them but you can see them the best on the top right rose. The little accent flowers are made from cream pearlescent paper with a textured pearl for the centers. I think this is my favorite little accent flower, but sadly I think EK Sucess has discontinued this punch. For those who want it and can't find it in the stores, email them and tell them you want them to bring it back! I can't find the name for it anywhere but here is the picture of it so you know what it looks like.

The butterfly is one of Fred She Said's new releases, Flutterbies. I printed the flutterbie onto heavy weight vellum and took my embosser ink pen and inked the areas that I wanted to emboss with gold. Then I watercolored it with my tombow markers and added the black accents and glitter. These super cute butterflies come in several sizes and you can adjust them to whatever size you need. There are different transparency files and outlines so you can make background paper, or color and "paint" them in your favorite draw/paint, picture editor program.
*And, Tracey gives GREAT tutorials on how to do that if you are technically challenged such as I! Her latest tutorial is on using distress inks to color and emboss her Lovely Blossom and Butterfly digi set. Tracey isn't just limited to digital art either, she is a very talented painter and her K9 art (pet portraits) is stunning, check out her blog here to see her most recent painting.
*
Thanks for the encouraging comments! I have heard that some of you are leaving comments and that they are not showing up. I too have had that experience on other blogs and I can't find the reason why it happens, must be a blogger glitch. If it does happen to you, please use the email contact link on the side bar and email me your comments or questions and I will enter them on the post for you!

Hydrangea Petals Quilled Card
Hi all, I am still having problems with the pain and nausea but thankfully I have an appointment with the GI specialist in the morning! Maybe he will continue with the next test to finally find out why I keep having these problems.
*
But on a happier note, the August Custom Quilling Newsletter is out!! You can see the August DT projects using the current kit, and great new products for quilling and paper art. Denise has wonderful quilling supplies and don't miss the new quilling kits! Check out the newsletter to see Sue's awesome quilled heart wall plaque and just to cute quilled cake! I have three new projects also, including a photo album using my brand new pink Bind It All 2. I love it and you will see more projects in the future using it.
Above is one of the projects that I made for last month's newsletter with the July kit. The kit featured hydrangea papers and lovely quilling papers. The designer paper in the kit inspired the quilled hydrangea petal border on the card. The details for this card are listed in the July Custom Quilling newsletter here. That's all for today, another card tomorrow!

Fred She Said New Release!
Hi all! I have been MIA lately because of a recurring problem with my once removed gallbladder again. The almost constant nausea and pain have not been favorable to be in a creative mode which hasn't made me very happy. I have been to the Dr. and the ER with the problem and now have another Dr. appt. to get a referral for a specialist!!!!! I have done some research on the issue and hopefully will get to the bottom of the problem once and for all!
* But, I have finally finished this card! I used the newly released Little Miss Bitty digi stamp from Fred She Said. She is so cute and there are several versions of her to color and embellish for a project. Cute Little Miss Bitty has these cute flowers to go with her many ensembles! They are quick and easy to color and cut out. I printed her and her flower garden out onto 90lb watercolor paper and watercolored her with my Tombow markers. She is popped up on dimensionals. I accented her and the flowers with a Sakura pen and glitter to make it sparkly! Quilled leaves were added to finish the flower garden border.
*
Check out Fred She Said for new digi stamps and a great tutorial by Tracey on making super fun background paper with digi stamps (which is free!!!). Spread the Fred! I will be posting the Custom Quilling DT projects tomorrow and will have another Fred She Said new release coming up! If you make a card with Fred She Said digi stamps or have a quilled project to show off, post a link in the COMMENTS below, I'd love to see them!

Firefly Glow in the Dark CPS124
Hi all! I must have bugs on the brain because I saw these little fireflies in a Fred She Said flower digi stamp! This blue and green color combo are ones that I have been wanting to play with for a while now. I started with the Whirly Foldy Flowers digi stamps and cut out one petal and center for the bodies of the fireflies. Then I colored them in with my prismacolors and OMS.
*
To bling them up they are outlined with a Sakura pen then glitter dots added. The wings are two hearts punched out of green velum, a slit cut to "separate" the wings, glued at the points, folded and a glitter swirl added for sparkle. I wanted these little bugs to really glow so I added glow paint to their bottoms. Now with a little charging in the light they will really glow in the dark like real fireflies! My grandkids are going to love it! Good thing I bought extra glow paint!
The design was from Card Positioning Systems and is for their challenge #124. If you are not familiar with CPS they have a weekly challenge for great card design sketches at their site. If you get stuck for a layout design drop on over and browse through all of the past sketches and look at all the links for the current and past challenges. The DT has examples to get your creativity going. Post a card that you have made from one of their sketches and enter for a chance to win!
*
I am working on another card to post for another challenge so, off to clean off my table so I have room to make more cards!

Ladybug Surprise Card
*
I used one of the designs of Whirly Flowers from Fred She Said and left them white except for the centers. I had to have some bling, so I glittered them a bit along with the leaves. They are really sparky IRL, the picture never seems to show that off. These flowers are so easy and fast to cut out and there are many coloring options.
*
Since there was not a suitable place to put a bow because the wings had to open, I added the little bit of ribbon ruffle at the sides of the ladybug. The inside of the card was decorated with red, black and white mats embellished with small ladybugs. A short post for today, have a great Shabbat!

Sunflower Wall Hanging
Hi all! This started out as a card and because of the size of the flower I decided that I would make it a wall hanging instead! If you have ever had a job you know that there are some bosses you just can't please no matter what you do! I made this for a friend that is having a hard time at work and I wanted to send her something that would cheer her day. I used Tracey's digi stamps Dahlias and printed them out onto yellow, orange and red cardstock. I love to make floral punch flowers and using FSS digi flower stamps is a great alternative to using punches, if you do not have any, for the petals! With this digi stamp set you get several sizes of dahlias, two petal shapes and leaves.
*
The petals of the flowers were cut apart easily and quickly giving me plenty of elements to make this sunflower. And the great thing about FSS digi stamps are that they can be resized to fit your project, so you have many design options! The petals were inked with orange on the yellow petals, raspberry on the orange petals and tea dye on the red petals. I cut out a brown Nestie scallop circle for the center of the sunflower and stamped the sentiment in a white ink. It didn't have the pop I wanted on the dark cardstock so I went over it with my white gel pen then added piercing and a gold gem. Next I cut out three Nestie circles, each one larger than the next to place my petals on, each color on a separate circle. Yellow glitter was added to the yellow petals to jazz it up a bit.
*
The first four petals were placed at 12, 3, 6, and 9 positions to start. Then I filled in the spaces between these four petals completing the layers and gluing the petal layers on top of each other. Then I added the sentiment center of the sunflower with two dimensionals stacked.
*
It might be hard to see in the picture but the brown layer is a metallic DP. A ribbon "stem" and "leaves" were placed under the flower with orange brad accents. My friend loves anything frilly and wants to redecorate her apartment with feminine frills and doilies. So, I cut the yellow card stock with a Martha Stewart border punch that looks like a doily. I added dots to it to further "frill" it up. Then I added the ribbon hanger so she can hang it in her cubicle or on her wall at home. Tomorrow I am having a class on floral punch here in my home for a few friends, I'll post their creations tomorrow!

Custom Quilling Design Team!
Hi all, I have been waiting to tell some exciting news and now I can! I was asked to be on the Custom Quilling Design Team for the summer! What an honor to be asked, and to work with Denise, the owner of Custom Quilling and also one awesome quiller (check out her gallery on CQ home page), and Sue, my DT partner, whose creations are fantastic! Sue and I used the Custom Quilling kit for July that can be found here to create projects from the supplies in the kit, just click on "CQ Monthly Kit" on the left sidebar and then click on the "July Monthly Kit". Sue has designed a beautiful hydrangea box and several other amazing quilling projects. I think that I was having a "more is more" trend and packed as much into each project as I could! lol!
*The July Kit features hydrangeas designer paper and coordinating sticker sheets, embossed card stock + more CS in beautiful shades, Flower Soft, shaded eyelash trim, quilling strips in Hyacinth and Celery, flat back rhinestones, card blanks plus more! I made three card packed with design elements and still have enough supplies to make many more projects.
*You can see the DT projects Sue and I created using the July Kit in the July Newsletter here along with new items featured in the store. The picture above is a peek at one of the cards that I made with the kit. The Custom Quilling Newsletter also has an article in the Quill News section on "Beads for Life". See how a bit of paper can change a life!
*
Later I will post the projects from the CQ Newsletter, but for know click over and check it out!

Sweet Pea Fan Card
*
Then I pierced each scallop, added glitter to the flower but in the punched shape and a small pink crystal. To assemble the fan I pierced a hole for the brad at the bottom of each blade using the first one over the next for placement. The fan is held together with a pink teardrop crystal brad. The flowers on the fan are miniature sweet peas that I punched out and watercolored with Twinkling H2O's on coffee filter paper. Leaves and tendrils were added along with a gold tassel, light pink grosgrain bow and tucks behind the tops of the blades.
*
Instead of a sentiment I used my brand new Just Rite Monogram stamper and stamped it in a raspberry ink embossed with clear embossing powder and had pink crystal accents. The monogram was cut out with round classic and scalloped Nesties and popped up with dimensionals.
*
The designer paper is a patterned vellum that I think is so pretty! The same floral corner punch used on the fan was used to punch the corners of the velum and had the same crystal accents. I will have to try again to see if I can actually execute this design the way I wanted it to. Tomorrow I will have a card made with Fred She Said digi flowers used in a different way, stop by and see!

The Lord Keep You
The verse on this card inspired the color of yellow for the Son "shine"! So I printed out one of Fred She Said digi stamp flowers and colored them in with my yellow Prisma pencils, gave them some dimension with my ball stylus, layered three sizes of them and added a black button for the center. Of course I couldn't stop with that and I added yellow glitter to the petals for bling! The flower looks like a bright sun! You will see this flower again later this week only used differently. The black panel is embossed with my Cuttlebug embossing folder and the verse is embossed in black and cut out with Nesties. I had wanted to pair up the FSS digi flowers with quilling and made some tri-colored fringe flowers, quilled leaves and vines. To finish up I punched accent flowers out of yellow pearlescent paper, added black crystal centers and a little velum butterfly. You can find these beautiful Fred She Said digi stamp flowers here.
*
FSS digi stamps are so easy to use and versatile! I will be showing different ways you can use them in the next few days! Still working on a tutorial, but it isn't finished yet. Off to create more cards!

Lily Sympathy Card
Hi all. Yet another sympathy card. I had to make this one quickly and wanted to use lilies because the sweet lady was a member of the Day Lily Society. Because the verse and lilies were the focal point I used a muted gold DP. The sheer gold three loop bow serves as a backdrop and was used to perch the lilies and leaves on. The lilies are two sizes and I looked up the many varieties and colors and pared down my choices to use these. I used flower soft on the stamens and it lends a realistic look to them.
*
I thought it might be a bit much with all those flowers, but I really wanted it to be a remembrance for her daughter who now cares for the garden that is full of these lilies she loved. These lilies are easy to make and you can make four different sizes from one punch! These are one of the flowers that Susan T. Cockburn taught in the most recent floral punch class and you can see more of her fantastic floral punch in her book "Paper Bouquet". Just a short post today and I have a few more projects to finish up this week. Thank you for all your kind and encouraging comments, I appreciate each one!!!!

Hi all, I have been waiting to tell you some exciting news! I am so honored to be among 11 other talented ladies who were chosen for the Fred She Said Design Team!!!! Here is a list of the new DT and their blogs/sites:

Bonnie Rose http://www.alifeunrehearsed2.blogspot.com/
Lisa C. http://www.bylisac.blogspot.com/
Lora http://www.lorascards.blogspot.com/
: ) Thanks Tracey!!! : )
*
Tracey has great digi stamps and Foldy Flowers at Fred She Said which I have admired for some time and you will see in the coming weeks on my card designs. The above card was made from a from a free digi stamp on her site. I printed the image three times, then colored them with Prismacolor pencils and OMS. Each image was cut out and layered with dimensionals and punched flowers with pearl centers were added for accents. The sparkle from the Sakura pen outline doesn't show up well because it was an overcast day, it is really pretty IRL.
*
Tracey has a great blog and store where you can find cute digi stamps and Foldy Flowers which I have been eyeing for some time! The flowers come either colored or white so you can color them in with whatever medium you like, even with your favorite computer drawing program! Check out her site to see some awesome cards that she has created with these flowers and images!
*
It is so exciting to start working with the new DT and I am having fun exploring all their blogs and looking at all their great paperart!

Water Color Rose Card
*
The embossed DP was from a specialty paper pack and is layered onto the same yellow as the roses tips are. I inked it in yellow and pink to match. I love the vine ribbon and thought it would go nicely with the roses. Gold "pearls" are used as an accent on the base and on each corner of the rose panels. Finishing up is the bow made from a taffeta two tone wire edge ribbon that I purchased to make vintage ribbon flowers but since it was a perfect match, I guess I will have a few less ribbon roses!
*
I have a few projects that are in the line to be done and will post those as they are marked off the list! I also have a kit coming from Jerri K that is a card that incorporates the embossed cutout technique and when I finish I will post it also. Thanks for all the encouraging comments, I love to hear from those who stop by my little blog!

I was thinking about doing a tutorial so if you want to see anything special just let me know!

Mother's Day Card
Hi all! Happy Mother's Day to all who are a mother or those who are a spiritual mother showing love and giving encouragement to those who no longer have their mothers with them. This card has an embossed and cut out front panel. I stamped the image in gold and watercolored it with Tombow markers. The style is a CASE (copy and share everything) of Jerri K, see link on sidebar, I love her work!
*
This is going to be a short post as we have just gotten back from Nacogdoches and S.F.A. at the Big Dip ceremony. Our senior nursing student daughter Rachel dipped her "ax" (S.F.A. mascot is a Lumberjack) hand in purple dye and received her senior ring. We also loaded up the truck with some of her things from her dorm, which has grown exponentially since we took her there last August, so she won't have so much to move back home. I am very tired and tomorrow is going to be a busy day, so until the next post,

Red and Turqouise Card and Galveston Update April 2009
*
The above card's color inspiration was from the medallion embellishment that I purchased in a set. I probably would not have chosen this color combination but since I loved the medallions red and turquoise colors I tried it out. The verse seemed appropriate for our current Feast celebrations and has been so very true in my life. I embossed it in gold onto the turquoise cardstock which is a change from my usual white sentiment backgrounds. I also wanted a heart design to go along with the thought of the verse and I cut out a layered Nestie hearts in the same colors as the medallion and used glitter to coordinate. The verse and embellishments are popped up and the card is finished with gold "pearls" and a sheer red wired ribbon bow.
*
I am still working on the last 5 of my 10 Fav's, it is hard to choose! We took a short day trip to Galveston today and the Island is steadily progressing in it's recovery. More and more businesses are reopening. Gutted shops on the Strand are opening back up after being redone and restocked. There were many people out on the beaches newly built up with sand and enjoying the sun today. I am not sure, but Murdoch's gift shop may be in the process of being rebuilt. There are new stilts on the supports where Murdoch's used to sit, so, hopefully this Galveston beloved icon is going to return. There are still signs of the damage, street signals still blinking and homes needing repair but the clean up is ongoing with new landscaping, roof repair, painting and things getting ready for summer tourism. Last time we were down for a visit there was still a bit of a wounded feeling about the city, but not today. Today there was a more normal feel with everyone out and about, even on a Monday, shopping, surfing and sunning! Below are a couple of new pictures.
*
The first is of the west end at the state park that is being rebuilt. The sand is being sifted and cleaned and you can see that there is only one row of picnic shelters left in the campsites. You can see that there are no longer any streets, utilities, or grass but there will be. The campsites will probably be fewer in number as the dunes which are being rebuilt and recovering are further back now. The second pictures is of the seawall and the people out today enjoying the beach where every there was sand. The last is of what I hope is Murdoch's gift shop being rebuilt. You can see the ruins of the Flagship hotel in the distance.
Until the next post,
Shalom,
Sonya

Quilled Fantasy Flower
*
I had originally wanted to make a looped bow but it was too much so I opted for a knot instead. It is off centered so I could place the "Hi" sentiment on layered dimensional Nestie hearts, which is accented with more of the punched flowers. My DH said it is a bright and cheery card! I told him that was my goal.
*
I also have been given two awards! My very first ones and I receive two in two days! WOW y'all are great! My sister Jody (Joann to everyone else!) gave me this award:

She is the one who inspired me to start blogging in the first place with her great blog with all things thrifty, gardening, sewing and other fun stuff! THANKS JODY!
*
So I pass this one on to my Lisa Phillippi at Adornments by Lisa , and you can see why below!
*
Next I received this one from my great blogger and paper soul sister Lisa Phillippi:
*
This award is so cute, I love ladybugs and have a card on my "to do" list with a ladybug theme! So now I pass on this award to my 10 Fav's, which is hard to pick just 10! Here they are in no particular order:
That's the first 5 and I will post the other 5 on the next post! These blogs are great! You will find wonderful paper art, humorous content, inspiring posts, useful info, so have fun exploring them! I have to get ready for Pesach (Passover) so I will try to get the table gift posted tomorrow, until then,

Black, White and Cream Toile
Hi all, I have a winner for the 5000th view BLOG CANDY! Drum roll......it is Birdnest Creations! Just email me at the link on the sidebar within 48hrs and let me know what you choice is from the list at this post: http://appelquilling.blogspot.com/2009/03/water-color-blue-bonnet-card.html and be sure add your address so I can mail it out to you! THANKS AGAIN to all my blogger friends!
*
The above card was made for a Stamp TV challenge, to make a monochromatic card using one color/shades of that color and neutrals. I have been wanting to use this toile DP and it was the perfect timing for this challenge. Card details are: Sizzix die cut latches in a metallic pewter DP and sentiment bookplate attached with black brads. The flowers are some of the ones that I won in Lisa's blog candy and I used black crystals for their centers. The lace rosette is made from a bit of remnant lace from my granddaughter's dedication and naming dress that I had made.
*
I'm still working on two more quilled keepsake invitations and will post them when they are finished. There is also another quilled project(s) that I am in the process of working out the logistics of and is of the "keepsake" nature and will be revealed later when I have a sample! Until the next post!
